‘ It was my time to start and it was the best decision I’ve ever made Probably the youngest competitor on the grid for this year’s Cemcor Cookstown 100 will be Coleraine Mechanic Lee Hara. The 18-year-old will achieve his lifelong dream to follow in his dad's footsteps, by undertaking the challenge of racing between the hedges. It is hard to imagine, that just over 5 years ago, Lee had his first ever race on the tarmac, when he rode in the Junior 140cc class at an Irish Minibike Championship meeting at Kirkistown, three x 6th place finishes may not have set the world alight, but it certainly ignited Lees appetite for more tarmac racing! Such was this young lad's competitiveness, Lee went on to turn his first-day results into winning ways, ending the season, as the IMC Junior 140cc Pit Bike champion! His performances didn’t go unnoticed, as he became the inaugural competitor to receive the Baylon McCaughey/IMC Scholarship Tianda for the Moto One class, a new class aimed at nurturing young competitors from the age of 12 to compete in short-circuit events. Lee didn’t disappoint, never finished lower than second throughout the season, taking second in the Moto One championship. Lee also competed in the Moto 3 championship, again, taking second place in the Championship. The following season, young Hara moved into the Suprtwin class, and again showed his potential, by taking 3rd place in the USBK Championship. Last year, the, now 17-year-old competitor stepped up into the ultra-competitive Supersport 600 class, where he contested the SS600 USBK Cup championship. Again, this lad flew under the radar, going about his own business, before knocking in 6 wins, and dominating the SS600 Cup championship, to claim the Championship! There is no doubt, that we are witnessing a very talented young competitor! so why road racing?, Here is what Lee had to say; I've been watching my dad race, and travelling all over the country for about 10 years of my life, I've always been into the bikes and loved to help him out. I've always been around the racing scene it was my time to start and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve always wanted to do road racing from a very young age it has always been a dream of mine to do it and super excited to finally get to do it.
