Marcus Simpson, newcomer last year, returns to CDE Group Cookstown 100

One of the most exciting newcomers to the road race scene here last year was Manx rider, Marcus Simpson. The 24-year-old from Douglas on the Isle of Man, competed in all the national road races here last year, in his debut between the hedges, Marcus took 5th place here at Cookstown in the Senior Support, and was also the best of the circuit newcomers! Marcus went on to take second in both Ulster and Southern Centre Support championships. Now in his fifth season of racing, and his second on the roads, Marcus is looking forward to making his debut at his local race, the Isle of Man TT races. On the circuit scene, this young rider has shown great potential, Taking wins at the NG Road Racing meetings, and winning the Anglesley Grand last year! Looking ahead to 2023, the young rider is aiming to compete as a wildcard at the Supersport level in BSB, along with Cookstown, Pre TT, IOM TT, Southern 100 and Armoy. Simpson will use an ER6 Kawasaki, R6 Yamaha and a GSXR 1000 Suzuki at the CDE Group Cookstown 100. Speaking to the Official Cookstown 100 Group, Marcus said, “ It was quite a shock when it was announced, that there wouldn’t be any racing here in Ireland. I had the best year of my life last year in Ireland and was not happy that I wasn’t going to be able to do it all again! So when Cookstown announced it was on, despite the cost of coming for one meeting, I thought if I don’t support the clubs now when they most need it, I might not get a chance in the future. Kudos to those who sorted the insurance situation,!” Title sponsors; LMR Powered by Jon Cuff Electrical. JPS Racing Powered by Atherstone ARC.
