We will miss Norman!

‘We will miss Norman’

Cumbrian James Rothery is one of our most loyal supporters of the Cookstown 100. The 56-year-old Motor cycle mechanic from Allonby in Cumbria may not be winning races, but he may be enjoying himself much more than those that have to win! A Motorcycle mechanic/engine builder by trade, he began racing ten years ago; the following season, he ventured to the dark side, in other words, to the roads, between the hedges, and that addiction has stuck with him ever since! As all his friends know him, Big Jimmy had his first road race. Cookstown was dead last, lol, but hooked In his first racing season, James was 2nd in the Scottish pre-injection 1200 championship, taking three wins to the second spot. In 2021, James made his television debut at Cookstown when he took 4th in the Supertwins B final, which was televised! Sponsors for the 2023 season are, are John & Susan Branney of Lakeland Motorcycles Oatlands Garage pica, Joe Nicholson of Sign-It Longtown my mam Margaret Norman and My mentors Ian & Anthony Ambler Be on the Suzuki Sv650 Supertwin, and Hopefully, if the new motors come together, the Yamaha 750 of Gary Jamison classic racing. Cookstown was my first ever road race, and Norman (Crooks) looked after me so well; we will all miss Norman this year; he made life so much easier for us all; after my first year, I was hooked, and I wouldn't miss it for anything looking forward to being back between the hedges. The 2023 Cookstown 100 has been rebranded, Thanks to a new Sponsor ‘CDE Group’. CDE is proud to support the 2023 Cookstown 100 In memory of Paddy Convery (11.03.62 - 26.12.22), brother of our Chairman and Founder, Tony, we are proud to announce that CDE is the main sponsor for this year’s Cookstown 100 on 21 and 22 April. Paddy Convery had a passion and dedication to the world of road racing that was second to none. An advocate for the next generation of racers, Paddy supported wherever he could and was a safe pair of hands sweeping riders up when they fell. Last night, Adrian Convery attended the press night in the Royal Hotel, Cookstown, along with members, competitors, and well-known faces in road racing. It was great to get together and hear stories that span over 100 years. CDE is proud to be able to support the event in Paddy’s memory. It’s an event that brings both the local community and those from further afield together to celebrate an incredible sport. If you’re attending, we hope you have a great weekend, and we wish all the riders a safe and successful event! CDE is a locally based firm; its global headquarters are in the Kilcronagh Industrial estate on the outskirts of Cookstown. CDE founder and chairman, Mr Tony Convery, said: “We are very proud to support the 2023 Cookstown 100.
