2023 CDE Group Cookstown 100 Press Night

2023 CDE Group Cookstown 100 Press Night The 2023 ‘CDE Group Cookstown 100’ road races were officially launched at last night's Press Launch at the Royal Hotel in Cookstown. Popular commentator Roy Neil was on hand to conduct the evening's affairs, which began with moments of silence in memory of the late Norman Crooks, who sadly passed away last November, Norman, known as Daddy Crooks, was the club's race secretary and a popular figure with all competitors and officials alike. John Dillon took to the floor to welcome everyone to the Press Night and, in doing so, thanked everyone who has pulled together to do so much in such a short space of time. Adverts for the race programme and race sponsorship were done in a concise space of time! Much hard work has gone on behind the scenes to get this year's event underway. Thankfully, we have a small but dedicated band of club workers who keep the wheel turning, and I wish to thank everyone. We hope to start the course build on Easter Tuesday, and anyone who wishes to help is most welcome. Roy Neil then introduced Mr Adrian Convery, Sales Manager of the CDE Group, the new title sponsor of the event for 2023. Mr Convery spoke of his delight to be involved with the Cookstown 100, our first time being involved with the event, and already, I can feel the buzz, My Father, Tony, was unable to attend tonight as he is away on business. We at CDE Group are sponsoring this event in memory of my late uncle Paddy, a lifelong road race fan. Uncle Paddy was well known for his work at the Tandragee road races; looking at these fantastic bikes here, I cannot wait for the event, and I wish the club and riders a safe and successful weekend of racing. Trevor Wilson, from the Cookstown & District Council, then spoke of the council's involvement in the event, as in the past, they looked at the event from a commercial point of view, as it brings visitors to the town and surrounding areas. Mr Wilson also spoke of his time working with the Council Enterprise, where he praised the efforts of Mr Tony Convery, who started with a small holding with little space. Still, with hard work and dedication, his business is now a Global Manufacturer with over 700 employees! Mr Wilson also praised the hard-working club members and volunteers, who have put so much effort in over the past few weeks to get this unique event going. Adrian Wilkinson of Cemcor spoke of the company's new look; having been known as Larafage over the past number of years, the business was taken over by ‘Cemcor’, a branch of the Lissan Coal Company group, the name may have changed, but the company’s enthusiasm for the local road race remains as high as ever. As a road race fan, I cannot wait for the 2023 event. Roy Neil then interviewed several competitors who would be competing at the event before everyone was treated to a wee bite to eat. The Cookstown and District Motor Cycle Club wish to THANK Roy Neil for acting as compere for the evening. Thanks to ALL the Photographers and members of the Press for attending, and to ALL the competitors who made an effort to attend; unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time to chat with all the riders in attendance. The 2023 CDE Group Cookstown 100 will have a 14-race programme, with most classes having full grids; last year, Man of the Meeting, Michael 'Micko' Sweeney, heads the entry list with Mike Browne, Darryl Tweed, Barry Davidson, Andy Hornby, Julian Trummer, Yannick Urban, Marcus Simpson, James Chawke, amongst the other front runners. 2023 Race Sponsors.
